International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU)
|
The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), established in late 2005, is a collaboration between ten of the world’s leading research-intensive universities which share similar visions for higher education, in particular the education of future leaders.
IARU activities can be categorized as:
- Global Education Initiatives, aimed at cultivating a sense of global citizenship and leadership amongst students. Examples include the Global Summer Program, Global Internship Program and the Sustainability Fellowships.
- Institutional Joint Working, to facilitate the sharing of best practices and learning from one another. Projects include Industrial Innovation, HR Benchmarking, the Value of Research Intensive Universities, Alumni Association and Open Access Publishing.
- Grand challenges facing humanity. The Alliance has identified sustainable solutions on climate change as one of its key initiatives. As a demonstration of its commitment to promote sustainability, IARU has sought to lead by example through the establishment of the Campus Sustainability Program aimed at reducing the environmental impact of our campus activities.
- Major research projects pertaining to ageing, longevity and health, global security, and sustainable cities.
The incumbent Chair of IARU is Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, President of the National University of Singapore.
