Student Associate Scheme

The Student Associate scheme is an initiative of the International Relations Office (IRO) to provide NUS undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Under this scheme, IRO offers Student Ambassador and Peer Advising Leader positions.


Student Ambassadors

Do you enjoy meeting people?
Do you have a good eye for design?
Are you pro-active and enthusiastic?
Can you commit to work from June 2012 for at least one academic year?

If your answer is YES to the questions above, you may be just the person we are looking for!

The International Relations Office is looking for NUS students to come on board and work with us as Student Ambassadors. The Student Ambassadors work together with the IRO officers on different tasks and projects.


What are the roles of the Student Ambassasors?

 
  • Conduct campus tours for visitors
  • Reception duties
  • Translation work (e.g.  translate program sheet or script from Chinese to English)
  • Write articles for IRO publications (e.g. Step-out)
  • Design marketing collaterals (e.g. posters, brochures, flyers)
  • Design presentation slides
  • Participate in IRO events (e.g. pre-departure sessions, welcome teas, NUS Open  House)
  • Research information about universities, programmes and individuals
  • Assist IRO officers in preparation for visits, trips, running new programmes
  • Customer service (handling student queries)
  • Update website content
  • Prepare and pack collaterals
  • Emcee for student events
  • Range of administrative and logistical tasks related to events or special projects e.g. 
   
  • emcee for student events
  • collation of guest lists
  • printing labels/ name tags
  • packing of materials for visits/ meetings
  • delivery/ collection of materials (on or off campus)
  • scanning of documents
  • meet and greet for incoming students/ guests
  • photo taking
  • registration at events
  • event runners
 
  • Other administrative office duties as needed

 

What are the essential skills of the Student Ambassadors?

 
  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint & Excel)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Pleasant personality
  • Professional and customer oriented disposition
  • Good organisational and event planning skills
  • Responsible, punctual and able to meet deadlines

 

What are the skills which are bonus to have but not essential?

 
  • Good eye for design with design software skills (e.g: Photoshop, Flash, etc)
  • Knowledge of a 2nd language (other than English, eg. Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, German and French) is desirable
  • NUS student exchange or overseas educational programme participant

 

What is your commitment?

You must commit to work for at least 8 hours per week.


What will you get?

You will be paid S$8.00 per hour.
