
The department offers a four-year undergraduate programme leading to B.Eng (Chemical) degree. The curriculum is designed to provide the graduates with a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles of chemical engineering and their applications to a wide range of processes and operations. Accreditation to the degree course has been given by the Institution of Engineers, Singapore and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (London).
Facilities are available for postgraduate studies leading to M.Eng and Ph.D. degrees by research. The department will soon introduce advanced courses as an integral part of its postgraduate programme. Research activities in chemical engineering are conducted under seven major divisions.
The major objectives of the postgraduate programme is to develop R & D manpower which is essential for the continued development of Singapore. The department recognizes the importance of attracting collaborative industrial projects for simulating a committed research environment. Research topics are therefore chosen to cater the immediate and future needs of the local and regional industries. Fundamental research is also emphasized in order to ehnace the standing of the Department in the international community.
For continuing education in chemical engineering, the academics staff members offers specialized short courses for the engineers working in various process industries. Some of the teaching staff act as consultants to many local chemical industries and enjoy international repute for their contributions in the areas of their research interests. The staff members also contribute in the areas of their research interests. The staff members also contribute to various activities fo the related professional institutions and provide advisory services to government organizations and statutory boards.
